The term cardiac (as in cardiology) means "related to the heart" and comes from the Greek kardia, for "heart."

In order to understand diseases that affect the human heart, it is important to know how the heart normally works. The human heart is a hollow, muscular organ about the size of a fist. It's job is to pump blood through a network of blood vessels. These vessels form a loop, which starts at the heart, goes out through your body, and then ends back at the heart again.

In one of his revealing interactions when he was in India some months ago, he said that he believes in a "see one and teach one "approach to educate the large number of professionals in state of the art techniques in cardiac care and also educating masses about what they need to do to prevent heart attacks and strokes. He further added that developed countries like America have now realized that the best way to improve cardiac health of the masses is through education; letting them know what needs to be done to prevent heart attacks. We are in need to do the same thing here as well. The best way to manage cardiac health in the populous countries like India, China, etc. is through wide-spread education and awareness about heart friendly ways of living and heart healthy habits.
